The easiest way to get the healthy stuff.

If you're trying to take your health seriously—whether that's prepping for a marathon, getting a summer body, or just eating a bit better—juicing could help your regiment. Essentially, it gives you all the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants of fruits and veg without eating huge quantities of the stuff everyday or buying pre-made juices with a bunch of weird additives. Everyone, from kids getting some OJ to athletes mainlining kale, should be juicing.

But you might look at these kitchen gadgets and ask what exactly is the difference between different juicers? Well, it's really about the types: Centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers (also called slow juicers). Centrifugal juicers use spinning blades and a fine mesh sieve to separate juice and pulp. These juicers a quick, easy to clean, and cheap. Masticating juicers also get called slow juicers because they are (you guessed it) slow. Slow juicers use an auger to slowly squeeze the juice out of your produce.

Is one type of juicer better than the other? For most people, centrifugal is probably the way to go. Cheap, fast, and easy, the only real downside is that they struggle to make a lot of juice from leafy greens—kales, lettuces, and the like. (But honestly, leafy greens come out better when blended, anyway). Masticating juicers are great if you really insist on juicing with leafy greens instead of more watery fruits and veg. And though they work slower, they get more juice from the same amount of produce when compared to centrifugal models.

Either way, welcome to the bandwagon. Health freaks have been juicing since the '90s, so it's about time the rest of us join in. Buy one of these juicers, mainline some vitamins, pack that gym bag, and say hello to the rest of your life.

Typically, centrifugal juicers give you speed at the expense of actual quantity of juice, but it's not quite the case with Breville's signature model. This thing juices very quickly, but it also extracts a ton of juice out of most veggies. The only thing that would give it real trouble is those tougher greens, like kale. Put anything else in, and you'll get plenty of juice on the other side.

The one big downside to this model is that it's physically big. It takes up a lot of counter space and can be tough to store. At the same time though, that can be seen as a positive, because it comes with a huge juice container for batch juicing. Give and take.

Breville's best-in-class centrifugal juicer, just shrunken down.

It's a lot of the same hardware: You get the titanium reinforced blades, stainless filter basket, extra wide chute, froth separator, etc. etc. Is it an incredibly quiet machine? Not really. But, it has the characteristic speed of a centrifugal juicer, without the drop in juice quantity or quality compared to slow juicers.

If you're new to juicing, this would be our number one recommendation.

But if you're a real freak about juicing, a slow juicer might be more your thing. Generally—it's true with this model from Omega—you get more juice, and you get better juice. These models give you less froth, they handle leafy greens better, and they work more quietly.

This option from Omega, is the best of them all. It helps that it's a handsome product, and it's got a small footprint. Other than that, it gives you a nice, clean juice.

Slow juicers are always more expensive than their simpler centrifugal counterparts. But! NutriBullet makes a great budget option, relative to other masticating options.

The brand's slow juicer will give you as much juice, at the same quality of the Omega juicer. The drop offs are in the looks (the Omega is just prettier) and the process (it gets jammed a bit more frequently. That said, it's a great juicer, and for $200, with a reasonably sized footprint, you won't spend your money more wisely.

If you're trapped in a little city-sized apartment, space is at a premium. You need gadgets that take up the least amount of space, whether on the countertop or in the cabinet.

Though it's not going to win any awards, it's the perfect compact option. It handles everything—even those tough leafy greens—with relative ease. It works pretty quietly, and it comes with a nifty little to-go cup and cleaning toothbrush.

If you made it this far, or if you did a specific citrus search, I assume you are a fellow citrus juice lover (or, like, a mixologist). Personally, there is nothing I love more than fresh squeezed orange juice. It's actually my favorite drink.

The issue with using regular juicers for citrus is that you have to fully peel your orange, lemon, lime, whatever. Not a huge deal, but if you're making A LOT of juice, it gets annoying.

With a citrus juicer, it's an easy slice-in-half and throw it on the reamer. And as far as citrus juicers go, SMEG's is the best. It's electric, so it makes quick work of whatever you throw in it. It looks great, so no worries about storing it anywhere besides the countertop. And, it has a nice small footprint.

The only downside is the price... A lot for a citrus-only juicer, but if that's what you need, you won't regret the investment.
